If your teen is like many, then he or she might rely on a bicycle to get around. Because of all of the riding that your teen might do, the bicycle might be worn out and in need of repair. If this is true, then you could be wondering if you should buy your teenage son or daughter another bike or just repair the one that he or she already has. These tips can help you decide which idea will work out best.
Signs You Should Repair Your Teen's Bike
- It's a relatively new bike. If you just bought your teen a bike a few months ago, you probably don't want to spend the money to buy a brand new one. In this case, a repair might be a better idea than a replacement.
- The bike is still the right size. Teens can grow really quickly. If the bike that your teen has right now is still the proper size for him or her, though, it might not be necessary to buy a new one.
- The repairs will be fairly affordable. Just because your teen's bicycle is messed up does not mean that a repair is going to be really costly. Of course, if repairing the bike is going to cost more than buying a new one, such as if the frame of the bike is seriously damaged, then it probably isn't going to make sense for you to spend a lot of money on a repair. If you take the bike to someone who repairs bicycles, however, he or she should be able to give you a quote for the cost of the bicycle repair. If it's going to be a lot cheaper to repair the bike than replace it, then that's the obvious choice.
Signs You Should Replace Your Teen's Bike
- It's unsafe. If the bike is in seriously poor condition or is otherwise unsafe, then now is the time to start thinking about buying a safer replacement.
- Your teen has outgrown the bike. First of all, if your teen is growing fast and has outgrown his or her bicycle, then it's time for a replacement. Even if your teen isn't physically too big to ride the bike, though, he or she might have outgrown the style of the bike. In these situations, looking for a new bike that is a better fit for your teen -- whether physically or age-wise -- is important
